⏱️ How to get inspired
💡 1 IDEA FROM ME
Inspiration comes through non-inspiring practices.
Here’s what I mean: we think creativity and great ideas just happen. They must be organic and unplanned, coming when we least expect them. At least that’s how we imagine or have been misled into thinking the great inventions and breakthroughs in human history arrived.
Yet the stories we hear of ideas coming to someone while on a walk, in the middle of the night, or even by accident (looking at you, penicillin), all occurred to people who were deliberate in their practice.
In fact, Alexander Fleming, the physician and microbiologist who discovered penicillin said,
“When I woke up just after dawn on September 28, 1928, I certainly didn’t plan to revolutionize all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic, or bacteria killer. But I suppose that was exactly what I did.”
But before you think, “See, it was just ‘by chance’ that happened.” It is helpful to know that Fleming researched and studied many things in the area of microbiology, and the accidental discovery of what we now call penicillin, which he originally called mold juice, happened while he was experimenting and studying something else entirely.
Here’s the point; inspiration happens to those with non-inspiring practices. People who show up consistently, who work hard, and who have regular rhythms and practices that set them up for moments of inspiration.
It comes to people no different than you.
If you want inspiration to come, keep showing up. It won’t happen on your first attempt, but it also won’t happen if you don’t keep going in your craft.
💬 1 HELPFUL QUOTE
Charles Richards on productivity:
“Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One person gets only a week’s value out of a year while another gets a full year’s value out of a week.”
📖 1 BRIEF BOOK REVIEW
Never Enough by Andrew Wilkinson
Wilkinson's story of how he became a billionaire.
An enjoyable read of how he went from minimum wage to a billionaire. It was also vulnerable and included the times he was wrong, made a poor decision, or wished he had done things differently.
This memoir isn't really a business book. While there are certainly some wise principles to take from it, the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to replicate what he has done even at a much smaller scale. So if you are looking for a step-by-step guide to wealth, this isn't that.
However, if you enjoy reading stories of interesting people's lives, this one is great. I would highly recommend it.
Not surprisingly, it was also a clear reminder that money will not meet our deepest needs and longings. Money makes a terrible and unfulfilling God, and this book is another testimony to the truth of that.

This is a universal microphone stand that I use to record The Dylan Dodson Show. If you record video/audio of any kind and use a microphone, this is easily adjustable and convenient. Inexpensive and does a great job.
