The Best Minute: On perseverance, failure, and trying new skills
2 QUOTES FROM OTHERS
I. Newt Gingrich on perseverance:
“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.”
———————————
II. Ed Catmull, co-founder of Pixar, on what failure actually is:
“Initially, the films we put together, they're a mess. It's like everything else in life—the first time you do it, it's a mess. Sometimes it's labeled … “a failure” … but that's not even the right word to use. It's just like, you get the first one out, you learn from it, and the only failure is if you don't learn from it, if you don't progress.”
2 IDEAS FROM ME
I. The most consistent point of “busyness” and anxiety in our lives comes from our phones. Either from how much time we spend using it or what we see on it.
Look at your screen time report from the past week. Imagine how much your quality of life would improve, and how much time you would get back if you reduced the time spent on your phone by 50%.

II. Want to try a new skill but have no idea where to start? Search on YouTube “New skill for kids” and watch a few videos explained and demonstrated at a level a child can understand.
For example, I started with absolutely no knowledge or background in woodworking earlier this year by simply watching a couple of woodworking videos for kids. Now it has become one of my favorite hobbies (and I no longer have to watch woodworking videos for kids).
1 INTERESTING FACT
Burping releases gas that has built up in your body from swallowing air. You might not know it, but you swallow air all the time - especially when you eat or talk quickly, chew gum, or drink through a straw.
Most people burp between 6 and 20 times a day. And the more you burp, the less you fart. After all, the air has to come out somewhere.
